Ralph de la Vega | Keynote Speech @ NIU
On October 19th, 2011, I attended the keynote speech by Ralph de la Vega at Barsema Hall here at Northern Illinois University. He is the CEO of AT&T Mobility, NIU alum, and here to accept the Beta Gamma Sigma Business Achievement Award. The hall was extremely packed with only standing room in the back and overflow to another classroom. The speech was also multicasted to different schools where many students could watch and engage in this speech.
Assignment #14 | Kindle Fire vs. Nook Tablet
This assignment will focus on a class presentation that involved comparing two brands and contrasting their social qualities and features. Our group used several marketing tools to compare what people are saying about both brands such as Twitter Stream Graph and Social Mention, and Tweetfeel. We decided to compare Amazon's Kindle Fire and Barnes and Noble's Nook Tablet. We did not cmpare these to the iPad because the brand name would sqew the results and also the iPad has better features and a different operating system.

The purpose of this assignment is to choose a brand and investigate their social media marketing strategy. In this example, I will explore Monster Energy and their Facebook page. Monster uses its fan base to pull consumers to their Facebook site. Below is a screenshot taken of their landing page. Currently they have just about 12.7 million followers! Just based off that number alone, we can tell that the company is very popular and growing fast.
